Small pieces of fruit have always been difficult to sort and pack. Since the quality and demand for many types of fruit has risen, manually sorting and packing fruit has become a thing of the past. When it comes to cherry packing, this is the case. Because the cherries are so small and they are not perfectly round in all cases, mechanical sorting has also been difficult. These machines only read the fruit on one plane and it is just not an efficient way to pack. The new machines that are being offered, however, scan the fruit on a three dimensional plane to make sure the fruit is sorted accurately and not damaged in the process.
