When they’d the nation’s broadcast package, Fox Network’s try to follow the puck with a silly ‘virtual tracking path’ — derisively named the ‘sperm’ puck, as that is the image it resembled — dwarfed the action, and mixed with its morphing robot graphics presenting scores, hockey was trivialized to serving as a background for ersatz computer games. New spectators only recalled effects, and eager fans got bored with attempting to look past all that to determine if a genuine game happened to be in progress.
Maybe NBC is preparing for that approaching change in broadcast standards. Who knows, but in the meantime, have some fun with an air hockey game table.
