My children never needed any prompting when it came to reading. Each one of them was fascinated at the words I read when they were just tiny babies. They would sit, wide-eyed, and listen to the stories. Each of them wanted to learn to read by the time he was four and books are still a big part of their lives. One of my sons went on to become a teacher and passed on his love of reading to his elementary school students. He believes that this skill opens up whole new worlds to the kids, and I completely agree.
