How Was The Grand Canyon Formed

The canyon is a result of over 6 million years of erosion which started when the ice of the last ice age melted at a rapid pace and the water washed away the earths surface in an on going and continual process. How Was The Grand Canyon Formed? The Colorado River carried the vast volumes of water and carved out this spectacular canyon with its famous rock formations. Once, about 300 million years ago during the Precambrian era, some of the rocks found in the canyon formed a mountain range the size of the Himalayas, reaching up to 6 miles in height. The erosion process created a plateau and more mountains which were slowly carved away by the elements.
