How much does an executor of estate get?

My brother was named in my dad’s will as the executor of estate.  My question is how much can my brother take away as a fee? I see that many states have different laws regarding probate and estate settlement expenses. Some states just make a general reference that ”fees should be fair and reasonable” given the services performed.  Other states are more specific and have a sliding scale, the larger the assets the smaller the fee allowed. After all my research I found out that most Executor of estate earn 3 to 4% of the estate assets. If you ever get in situation look closely at the state laws where the decedent lived… because each state is different.
