My cousin explained to me that the foreclosure lawyers told her that they felt that they’d be able to do a mortgage modification and add the missed payments to the end of the loan – extending the payoff date by six months but allowing her to not feel threatened she could lose the house. She said that the attorneys explained to her that the lender really doesn’t want the house as much as they want her to pay. If she’s paying monthly now, they’ll usually work with her to allow her to keep her home.
