When my wife and I were married, all we did was tell our church minister the wedding date. It was assumed by everyone that we’d be marrying in our parish church. We did that and were very happy with the way it worked out.For the reception we first looked at the hall attached to our church. Again, this would have been common in those days. (The 1970s.) In this case the hall was too old and run down, so we booked the new kitchen and reception area of the nearest church to ours. And, again, everything worked out fine. Not so easy these days.We now live in a different city; Christchurch. And I can assure you that when you’re looking for a Christchurch wedding venue there is plenty on offer!
Our daughter and her fiance had very definite ideas about what style of church and reception area they wanted for their day. My wife and I looked at many churches and reception venues, and there was a lot of discussion, before we settled on the church and reception areas (we used two!) that we hired. I now understand, from other parents who have had the happy privilege of arranging their daughter’s wedding, that is what most young people do in these modern times. Again, we a wonderful day. But, oh, how much more fuss and deliberation before everything was done and dusted.
