Preventing mold and mildew in the basement

The furniture and walls in our basement has begun to show signs of mold and mildew. We have had an especially wet summer and it has been very damp down there. Preventing mold and mildew has become all I think about lately. The kids play down there and I want it to be clean for them. I bought a dehumidifier and that really seems to help. I used a solution on equal parts water and white vinegar to treat the signs of mold that I already had and that seemed to really do the trick. The basement smells better already.
