Free attendance may include a waiver of all or part of the conference or other fee or the provision of food, refreshments, entertainment, instruction and materials furnished to all attendees as an integral part of the event. Free attendance does not include entertainment separate from the event, meals taken other than in a group setting with all other attendees, or travel expenses and lodgings. Free attendance may be accepted from other than the sponsor of a “widely attended gathering” if more than 100 people will be in attendance and the cost is $285 or less. An event is widely attended if it is expected that a large number of persons will attend (20+) and that persons with a diversity of views or interests will be present, e.g., it is open to members from throughout the interested industry or profession or if those in attendance represent a range of persons interested in a given matter.
