About the Irish drum

The bodhran is an Irish drum constructed from a laminated, shallow, round, wooden frame and, in some cases, is reinforced with a wooden crossbar in the center. Much of this music, like early Irish harping and piping, sounds strange because it follows a melodic standard drawn from the Scots Gaelic language. It might be a little surprising that a musician’s Irish Drum is able to carry the rhythm throughout a lengthy piece of music with enormous versatility. Sometimes, one side of the Irish drum is hollow and the other side is covered with goat or Kangaroo skin. It is now used in modern Irish music.
